Sweden’s National Team Championship concluded this weekend with Robin Petersson and Jonathan Åhgren helping Vasatorp to Silver in their title defence.
After a solid start in the foursomes, Vasatorp moved into contention after shooting 60 and 63 in the Fourball, with both Jonathan and Robin in good form.
Played over two golf courses throughout 4 days, the 6 round, multiplayer event is a strong test for the best golfers in Sweden. Strong play in round 3’s singles kept Vasatorp in touch with the leaders and after rounds of 70, 68, 68 and 72, the team was within striking distance.
Day 3’s Foursomes kept the team near the lead and another fantastic fourball effort in Rd 4 including a 13 under 60 from Robin and partner Christopher Paulsson helped to move the team into a tie for first.
With both Robin and Jonathan recording wins in the last 2 months, the final day of singles was destined to be a close contest and with just 9 holes remaining, Vasatorp held the smallest of margins.
It was an exciting dual to the finish with AIK Golf Club holding off Vasatorp by just 4 shots. 35 under to 31 under reversing last years 1-2 finish.
Both Robin and Jonathan will be looking to carry their stellar play forward with Robin heading to Austria next week for the Challenge Tour’s Euram Open whilst Jonathan returns to South Africa to continue his season on the Sunshine Tour.
