Nicholas Fung will long treasure his 33rd birthday, overcoming a 4-shot deficit to win the Hilux Cup on the Professional Tour of Malaysia.

The victory is the affable Malaysian’s 20th title on the PGM and came in stunning fashion in his home state of Sabah in front of family and friends.

 

Starting the day 4 shots behind fellow countrymen Ben Leong and Galven Green, Nicholas gradually closed the gap with an outward 34 before unleashing fireworks on the inward nine. A birdie on 11 kept him within range before back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14 moved him in a tie for the lead. A further birdie on 15 saw him take the outright lead and a final birdie on 18 was enough to secure a 3-stroke victory.

 

Fung’s final round 66 was the lowest score of the week at Sabah Golf and Country Club and his home victory will no doubt be a cause for extra celebration.
