BJÖRKMAN HOPING TO MAKE HISTORY

The USGA has announced the full field for the inaugural US Adaptive Open to be held at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club. A 96-person strong field of the world’s leading golfers with a disability will contest the 54-hole stroke play event at Pinehurst’s No. 6 course from July 18 – 20.

Leading the charge will be Swedish professional golfer Joakim Björkman. A strong advocate for golfers with a disability, Joakim who was diagnosed with Achondroplasia at a young age, has seen first-hand the benefits of major events like these for the adaptive golf community.

An excited Bjorkman stated “Golf has helped me a great deal personally and I’m energized by the USGA’s decision to add this tournament to their list of championships. It is a great opportunity to showcase golf as an all-encompassing sport whilst at the same time allowing us to prove that we can play at an elite level.”

The US Adaptive Open will crown a male and female champion as well as champions in each of the 8 impairment categories. Björkman who qualified in the short stature category and has already national, European and World Championship titles to his credit, is very eager to make history as the USGA’s first Adaptive Open Champion.

Joakim is an inspiration, and we wish him luck!
